3 Days 2 Nights Private Desert Tour From Marrakech
Our private desert tour from Marrakech to Merzouga Sahara desert begins with an early morning departure from Marrakech, heading eastwards towards the High Atlas Mountains. As we drive past small suburban towns, we’ll make a few stops along the way to take pictures, stretch our legs, and enjoy a cup of coffee while taking in the beautiful scenery.
We’ll then ascend uphill on curvy roads towards the famous Tizi Ntichka pass, before reaching our first major stop for sightseeing – the UNESCO-listed Berber fortified village of Ait Ben Haddou. This historic landmark has also been used as a set for major Hollywood movies, including Kingdom of Heaven, Lawrence of Arabia, and Gladiator.
After crossing the river separating the Kasbah from the main road, we’ll have the opportunity to explore the village at our leisure before enjoying lunch at one of the local cafes.
Next, we’ll continue our journey towards Boumalne Dades, passing through Skoura Oasis, Klaa Mgouna – the capital of the valley of roses – and famous for its rose water artisanal distillation factories, and Ouarzazate.
Upon arrival at Boumalne Dades, we’ll follow the Dades River on a tiny road, passing by different fortified Kasbahs located on the side of the road until we reach the Dades Canyons. We’ll arrive at our hotel in the late afternoon, where we’ll enjoy dinner and spend the night.
Our 3-day private desert tour from Marrakech to Merzouga Sahara continues with a delightful traditional breakfast before heading towards the Road of 1000 Kasbahs. We will drive past colourful Berber villages in the Dades valley and reach Tineghir, a stunning 15 km long valley filled with date palms and ending with breathtaking Gorges that are popular for rock climbing.
The road to the Todgha Gorges passes through green palm groves and Berber villages where we will trek along the canyons that reach 300m high. Then we will make our way to Merzouga Sahara desert in Erg Chebbi dunes, and you can have lunch in either Tinjdad or Touroug, depending on your preference.
Once you arrive at Erg Chebbi dunes, you will embark on a memorable camel ride through the golden sand dunes while enjoying a majestic Sahara and a breathtaking sunset. Your luggage will be loaded onto a 4×4 car and transported to the camp. Upon reaching the camp, you will be greeted with tea and warm hospitality from the friendly locals. You can also enjoy sandboarding on the dunes.
You will then be shown to your private and comfortable tents equipped with ensuite bathrooms and showers to relax and settle before dinner. After a delicious meal, we will build a bonfire and enjoy a party with Berber music and dance under the stars in the desert.
On our final morning, we will rise early to witness the stunning sunrise over the towering dunes of Erg Chebbi in Merzouga – a truly unforgettable moment in the desert. Following breakfast at the camp, we will pack up and bid farewell to the dunes, embarking on our return journey to Marrakech. The route will take us through the towns of Alnif, Tazarine, Draa valley, Agdez and Ouarzazate.
In Ouarzazate, we will have some free time to enjoy lunch and take photographs in front of the iconic Taourirt Kasbah, before continuing our journey towards Marrakech. Crossing back over the Atlas Mountains and through Berber villages, we will arrive back in Marrakech where our Merzouga desert adventure comes to an end.
