Day trip to Volubilis - Meknes from Fes

Our team will pick you up from your accommodation in Fez, and we will embark on a two-hour drive to reach the ancient Roman ruins of Volubilis. These ruins, which date back to the 3rd century, remained remarkably intact until they were struck by an earthquake in the mid-18th century. Following the earthquake, Moroccan rulers looted the site for stones to construct buildings in Meknes. It wasn’t until the latter part of the 19th century that the location was definitively identified as the ancient city of Volubilis.

Once we arrive at Volubilis, you will be able to witness the impressive remains of this once-thriving Roman settlement. You can explore the well-preserved ruins, including grand villas adorned with intricate mosaics. Notable features include the Triumphal Arch, the House of Orpheus, and the Baths of Gallienus. As you stroll through the ancient streets, you’ll encounter temples, basilicas, and residential structures that provide insight into the city’s past. 

After immersing ourselves in the history of Volubilis, we will proceed to Meknes, one of Morocco’s oldest imperial cities and a former capital during the reign of Moulay Ismail. In Meknes, we will ensure that you have the opportunity to explore the charming old alleyways and visit museums that showcase the city’s rich heritage. Key highlights of our Meknes visit will include the opulent Bab el-Mansour gateway, the Sahrij Souani Basin, and the lavishly decorated Moulay Ismail Tomb.
